Penned in Stone

a teaching rhyme
by JD Collier

penned in stone
are God’s very own
rules to protect mankind
the man He made
is offered God-aid
fit for his holy design. . . .

honor God
respect His name
approach with humility
honor your folk
killings no joke
lust
leads to adultery
don’t use others
or steal their goods
or lie
or live in deceit
don’t live in greed
let envy impede
your friendship
with those that you meet

(a word to warn
all who would scorn
by turning
and walking away—
to alter
erase
attempt to replace—
and ruin will follow your way)

let’s keep it brief
in bare boned relief—
just follow the golden rule:
love the Lord
with all of your heart
and let love for your neighbor be full
