Rebelling Against the King!

A word about this poem . . . Christian theology texts are usually divided into sections with one of the early sections dealing with anthropology or the doctrine of man and the doctrine of sin. Another chapter may deal with the nature of angels, demons, and spirit beings. The last is usually titled Eschatology.  The word eschatology comes from the greek word eschatos which means last and -logy meaning “the study of”, thus the study of the final events of history or last time prophetic events and their culmination.  This poem covers the entire gamut of theology from the first known events through the last times.  For those few who have an in depth interest in eschatology, the poem is footnoted to biblical texts for further study.  Gods blessing to all those who take the time to read.  JD

Rebelling Against the King!

locked in a struggle behind the veil that man cannot observe
battles fought in spiritual realms
where angels and demons serve
a tempter
a thief
a fallen star
prince of the power of the air
immortal warrior
archangel of yore
king of despair
an angel from the bottomless pit
this horrid
despicable thing
this dragon
this serpent
this beast from the sea is rebelling against the King

“I will be like the Most High God
to heaven I will ascend
enthroning myself on His Holy Mount
all knees to me will bend
I will make the nations tremble
sitting upon my throne
for I will be king of the utmost heights—
yes I will be god alone!”[2]

descending to earth
he began his attack on the man that God had made
disguised as a serpent
he spoke and charmed
‘til Adam and Eve were swayed[3]
he became prince of this darkening ball
where mankind blindly yields
his fiery darts
silently marks
where very few have shields[4]
with deftness he walks
cunningly stalks
until he has trapped God’s man
like a lion he creeps
voraciously leaps
devours as quick as he can[5]

but his battle was with the Lord of Hosts
the Maker he seeks to unseat
engaging in war on terrestrial ground
God’s Son he seeks to defeat
if he can wrest control of the world away from the God above
by killing the rightful heir of the earth
the Son of God’s great love
then he will be king
all will be his
the rebellion will succeed[6]
dispair will reign
the darkness remain
and he will retain earth’s deed

a woman appeared to be clothed in the sun
great was this heavenly sign
the moon dwelt firmly beneath her feet
with a crown of twelve stars enshrined
she cried out in pain
about to give birth
when another sign appeared
a great red dragon with seven heads
stood at her feet and sneered
ready to pounce when she gave birth
to devour the son she bore
the Godhead revile
destroy the child
with the woman go to war[7]

and so began the battle of battles
Satan pursuing the Son
from the desert temptation to Golgotha’s cross
the battlefields would run
when Jesus refused to bow to Satan
this liar from ancient days
though offered the world
instead of betrayal
and the thirty coins it pays[8]
and when he refused
though hunger abused
to make bread out of stone
but quoted the words of Satan’s Creator
“You can’t live by bread alone
but every Word from the mouth of God”
the desert temptations had failed[9]
the devil retreated to wait for a time
when better conditions prevailed

then Satan entered Iscariot—Judas
his purpose
destroy the Son
conspire with the leaders
betray with a kiss
his definitive act begun[10]
Jesus arrested
tried and convicted
beaten and scourged and crowned
a headdress of thorns
with shouting and scorns
from those who had gathered around
they kneeled and mocked
spat and balked
with satanic fury accost
lifted up high
and left there to die
the Savior was nailed to the cross
with fiendish delight
his venomous bite
did what he did not intend
he unwittingly followed the plan of God
that provided redemption to men[11]
while Satan fought
salvation was wrought
defeating his horrid campaign
and raised from the dead
He bruised serpent’s head[12]
the King became destined to reign[13]
the war cry sounded
the archangel Michael
the good angels on his side
moved against Satan
and all of his angels
who followed him in his pride
Michael and all of his angels fought
the dragon and his fought back
the dragon defeated was cast from heaven
on earth began to attack
be glad O heavens
you servants of God
but woe to the earth and the sea
his fury is great
and the time is late
to complete his destroying spree
and with his goal thwarted
the devil resorted
to one remaining play
with massive assault
weaken and slay

pursuing the woman
who birthed the Son
the Israel of God
he sent a torrent
a flood of destruction
wherever the woman trod
working in darkness where none can see
this beast from Hell
brings relentless aggression
and unceasing blows
against God’s Israel
this nation so small
if it should fall
would thwart the prophetic plan
for God had promised that Israel’s Son
would rule from Zion’s land
yet because of the Son
and the battle He won
with righteousness as His staff
the woman must flee to a wilderness shelter
for times
time and a half
the dragon enraged
because of the woman
goes after the rest of her clan
he wages a war on those who bear witness
the followers of the Lamb[14]

he sends two beasts
from the land and the sea
to gather all people to him
to acknowledge his power
give him control
and crown him king and then
demand that all receive his mark
and everyone worship his name
those who refuse can’t buy or sell
he plays a deadly game[15]
the people of earth are forced to decide
a test that faces mankind
worship the beast or follow the Lamb
the choice is clearly defined
the archangel Michael no longer restrains
but watches the battle unfold[16]
as the people of God refuse to submit
in faith
stand firm and bold
they understand
the heavenly plan
and to life no longer cling
choosing to die
and not to deny
that Jesus Christ is King[17]

the prophets foretold of a very dark day
known as the “Day of the Lord”[18]
a great tribulation in Satan’s realm
God’s wrath on earth is poured
it begins when a good angel harvests the earth
rescues those who believe
they’re lifted away
for a heavenly stay
no longer to earthly things cleave[19]
with the archangel call
believers enthrall
at meeting the Lord in the air[20]
a loud trumpet blast
salvation at last
saved from the antichrists snare
those left writhe in pain
as many are slain
in the winepress of God’s wrath[21]
having nowhere to run
rejecting the Son
they embrace the antichrists path
the lost have allied
with Satan’s deep pride
repentance is not their way
they choose
they receive
they will not believe
to God refuse to pray[22]

Satan will make one final attempt
his last
most desperate rage
to Armageddon
a place of great dread
the predestined battle stage
he sends the spirits of demons with signs
to gather earths kings to war[23]
but they are no match for the armies of God
they suddenly are no more[24]
the dragon is thrown into the abyss
bound for a thousand years[25]
he and his minions no longer exist
on earth or in heavenly spheres
their twisted minds
no longer define
how people on earth behave
no more to devour
they’re free from his power
no longer the dragon’s slave
the time has come for Jacob to root,
Israel bud and bloom
the Lord has punished with powerful sword
the serpent has gone to his doom[26]

Jesus will reign
as has been ordained
crowned King on Zion’s hill
and from this time
His glory will shine
and peace on earth instill
with none to dissent
His government
will circumscribe the earth[27]
justice will be
no anomaly
kindness will not be in dearth
the wolf and lamb
together will stand
in harmony they will live[28]
the earth will flower
and God will empower
nature to fruit and give
hallelujahs and yeas
both cheering and praise
all over the kingdom is heard
they shout and they sing
Christ Jesus is King!
He fulfilled the infallible Word!

[1] Greek name for Satan meaning “Destroyer”. “And they had as king over them the angel of the bottomless pit, whose name in Hebrew is Abaddon, but in Greek he has the name Apollyon.” Revelation 9:11

[2] Isaiah 14:12-14 The five “I will’s” of vss. 13 & 14 are literally true of Satan and only metaphorically of Babylon’s king.

[3] Genesis 3:1-7

[4] Ephesians 6:16

[5] I Peter 5:8

[6] This same scenario is described in the parable of the tenants.  Matthew 21:33-40

[7] Revelation 12:1-6.  The “woman” is Israel and the “Son” is the Christ.

[8] Matt 26:14-15  Then one of the Twelve — the one called Judas Iscariot — went to the chief priests  and asked, “What are you willing to give me if I hand him over to you?” So they counted out for him thirty silver coins.  NIV

[9] Matthew 4:1-11 Three times Satan gave this subtle message: “Simply submit to my suggestions.  What I say is true.  1) You can make bread out of stone.  2) God’s angels are watching after you.  3) And I am the prince of this world.  I can give you the kingdom now—without the pain of the cross.  Simply submit to me.”  Each time the answer was:  “Unlike you, I submit to God’s authority.”

[10] Luke 22:3-6

[11] Eph 1:11-12  “In him we were also chosen, having been predestined according to the plan of him who works out everything in conformity with the purpose of his will.”  NIV

[12] Genesis 3:15

[13] Eph 1:9-10  “And he made known to us the mystery of his will according to his good pleasure, which he purposed in Christ,  to be put into effect when the times will have reached their fulfillment — to bring all things in heaven and on earth together under one head, even Christ.”   NIV

[14] Revelation 12:7-17

[15] Revelation 13

[16] Dan 12:1 “At that time Michael, the great prince who protects your people, will arise. There will be a time of distress such as has not happened from the beginning of nations until then.”  NIV The Hebrew word for ‘arise’ in this passage is also translated ‘cease’ or ‘stay’.  The sense of the passage is that Michael’s protection ceases or is stayed to allow the time of distress.  2 Thess 2:6-9 reads:  “And now you know what is holding him back, so that he may be revealed at the proper time. For the secret power of lawlessness is already at work; but the one who now holds it back will continue to do so till he is taken out of the way.  And then the lawless one will be revealed.” NIV The context is that the lawless one (antichrist) will not be revealed until the one that is holding him back ceases to do so.  A probable interpretation is that this is referring to Michael the archangel of Daniel 12:1.

[17] Rev 13:7-8 “He was given power to make war against the saints and to conquer them. And he was given authority over every tribe, people, language and nation.” NIV The 5th seal in Revelation 6:9-11 also describes these martyred ones.

[18] The Day of the Lord has two aspects:  The wrath of God and a victory celebration.  Read Isaiah 24 for an example of both aspects.

[19] Revelation 14:14-16.  The Day of God’s Wrath does not begin until the harvesting of those who are made righteous by the blood of Christ. 1 Thess 5:9 “For God did not appoint us to suffer wrath but to receive salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ.”  NIV This is commonly referred to as the rapture.

[20] 1 Thess 4:16-17 “For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first.  After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air.” NIV

[21] Rev 14:18-19 “Still another angel, who had charge of the fire, came from the altar and called in a loud voice to him who had the sharp sickle, ‘Take your sharp sickle and gather the clusters of grapes from the earth’s vine, because its grapes are ripe.’  The angel swung his sickle on the earth, gathered its grapes and threw them into the great winepress of God’s wrath.”  NIV

[22] Rev 16:9 “They cursed the name of God, who had control over these plagues, but they refused to repent and glorify him.” NIV

[23] Revelation 16:12-16

[24] The battle is described in Revelation 19:11-21

[25] Revelation 20:1-2

[26] Isaiah 27:1 “In that day, the LORD will punish with his sword, his fierce, great and powerful sword,
Leviathan the gliding serpent, Leviathan the coiling serpent; he will slay the monster of the sea.”  NIV  Isaiah 27:6 “In days to come Jacob will take root, Israel will bud and blossom and fill all the world with fruit.” NIV

[27] Isaiah 9:7 “Of the increase of his government and peace there will be no end.  He will reign on David’s throne and over his kingdom, establishing and upholding it with justice and righteousness from that time on and forever.”  NIV

[28] Isaiah 65:25
