I have heard it said that

there are seven billion people
on this earth
a hundred billion more
have died
there are four hundred
billion galaxies
(hubble has guestified)
that’s three point seven galaxies
for each one
who has ever been
each having billions
of suns and stars
planets and moons within
and when I look up
all of the stars that I see
are those that dwell
in just one
galaxy
thousands of
light years across
and here I stand
on this earthly
ball
in awe
of the God
who made it all!

O LORD, our Lord, the majesty of your name fills the earth!  Your glory is higher than the heavens. . . .When I look at the night sky and see the work of your fingers — the moon and the stars you have set in place — what are mortals that you should think of us, mere humans that you should care for us?    For you made us only a little lower than God, and you crowned us with glory and honor.  Psalms 8:1, 3-5
NLT

Today in Church

September 13, 2014

Today in church,
the preacher asked me
if I would mind sharing
my testimony.
I strode to the front
to do my part
and told how the Lord
had changed my heart.

“First, let me read
a verse or two
from a parable by Jesus–
’bout what we should do.”

“Two men went to pray
at the temple,” you see.
“A tax collector
and a Pharisee—
The Pharisee thanked
his God that he
was not like the tax man
and never would be.
He tithed,
he fasted—
twice a week;
was unlike the tax man
who preyed on the weak.
But the tax man,
the sinner,
looked only down,
‘O God have mercy,’
as he bowed to the ground.”

“I tell you the truth—
of what Jesus taught:
one man was justified,
the other was not.
The humbled,
exalted,
the exalted,
brought low.
The sinners confession
had saved his soul.”

I looked up from reading–
looked straight in their face.
I spoke to them boldly
of mercy and grace.
“I too am a sinner.
I too beat my breast”,
told all of my sins,
from the worst to the best.
I laid it all out
in explicit detail,
how I, like the tax man
was bound for hell.

Then looking to heaven,
those present could see
me thanking the Lord
for setting me free.
“Thank you,” I said,
“for working in me—
so I am not like
that damned Pharisee!!”

Ponderings

July 2, 2014
Ponder-To weigh in the mind; to view with deliberation; to examine carefully; to consider attentively. (Webster)

“so heavenly minded of no earthly good”
I have heard it said before
but the truth of the matter
if understood
God’s heaven
make earthlings
care more

“We always thank God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, when we pray for you,  because we have heard of your faith in Christ Jesus and of the love you have for all the saints—the faith and love that spring from the hope that is stored up for you in heaven and that you have already heard about in the word of truth, the gospel that has come to you.”  Col 1:3-6  NIV

do not play
the arrogant fool
and think what you see is real
it soon will pass
it will not last
but that which you don’t see
will

“So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal. Now we know that if the earthly tent we live in is destroyed, we have a building from God, an eternal house in heaven, not built by human hands. . . We live by faith, not by sight. . . ”  2 Cor. 4:8, 5:1,7
NIV

Micro Minutia

in a double helix spiral
of bases and pairs
a blueprint of living
in bonding strands
the inaudible language of DNA
that no one understands
voices its genius
in what it creates
from the nucleus of one single cell
genomes repeating
again and again
(gave Watson and Crick a nobel)
there are 3 billion bits of info on each strand
75 trillion bits
in just one man
less than 6 foot tall
and yet
there are those
who defiantly say
there is no God
it just happened
that way

Ps 139:13-15

“For you created my inmost being;
you knit me together in my mother’s womb.
I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
your works are wonderful,
I know that full well.
My frame was not hidden from you
when I was made in the secret place.”
